Q - Does following dharma mean sacrificing personal happiness for duty?
A - In Sanatana Dharma, following dharma does not mean outright sacrificing personal happiness, but rather aligning one's actions with righteousness, truth, and duty. True happiness comes from fulfilling one's dharma, as it leads to inner peace and spiritual evolution. However, at times, dharma may require personal sacrifices, yet these sacrifices ultimately lead to a higher purpose and lasting fulfillment rather than fleeting pleasure.

The Hindu Way of Life
The Isha Upanishad teaches "ฤชลฤvฤsyam idam sarvam" - that the entire universe is pervaded by the Divine. This principle instills a sense of oneness, guiding followers of Sanatana Dharma to live with detachment, selflessness, and harmony with nature. By seeing the world as sacred and interconnected, one cultivates a life of dharma, simplicity, and inner contentment, realizing that true fulfillment lies in surrendering to the Divine will.

In Sanatana Dharma, one is seen as a mere instrument of the Divine, with all actions flowing through Ishvara's will. By surrendering the ego and abandoning doership, one attains peace, avoids karmic bondage, and performs duties with purity, seeing life as a divine play rather than a personal pursuit.

Ayurvedic Health Tip of the Week - Arsenic and Heavy Metal Exposure
Arsenic is sometimes a heavy metal found in my patients tests when we are diving deeply into root causes of their conditions. As rice-eaters, we can be at risk of arsenic poisoning, because rice is a big source of arsenic. So, what can we do to reduce our risk and exposure as rice-eaters? Even organic rice may have arsenic in it, because the arsenic comes from the water it is grown in, not the pesticides/fertilizers that are added.
To reduce reduce the arsenic in rice: soak first for a few hours before cooking. Drain this water away. Cook in a vessel on the stove. When rice is half-way cooked, drain away all the water, then add fresh water in and finish cooking it this way.
