Karva Chauth
The Adiveda Weekly #170
Hari Aum Sadhakas,
Karva Chauth is a sacred festival celebrated mainly by married women in the northern and north-western regions of Bharat. Observed on the fourth day of the waning moon in the month of Kartika, it is a day-long fast undertaken for the safety, prosperity, and long life of their husbands. Traditionally, women adorn themselves in festive attire, exchange gifts, and gather to listen to age-old stories and sing devotional songs. The fast is broken only after sighting the moon through a sieve, symbolizing devotion, love, and respect. Rooted in both agricultural traditions and timeless legends, Karva Chauth beautifully strengthens the marital bond and highlights the power of faith and togetherness.

Question Of The Week
Q - Who is Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, amongst the Mahavidyas?
A - Goddess Bhuvaneshwari is the fourth of the Dasha Mahavidyas, revered as the Queen of the Universe. She embodies boundless space (ākāsha tattva) and cosmic energy, symbolizing creation, sustenance, and nurturing power. As the universal mother, she governs over the three worlds and blesses devotees with prosperity, harmony, and spiritual wisdom.

The Hindu Way of Life
अन्नं न निन्द्यात् || Don’t disrespect food.
In Sanātana Dharma, food (अन्नम्) is considered sacred, as it is the very basis of life and a gift of the Divine. Scriptures teach “अन्नं ब्रह्म”, meaning food itself is Brahman, and thus should never be disrespected or wasted. Honoring food is seen as honoring nature, the deities, and the labor of all beings involved in its creation. Therefore, gratitude and mindful consumption of food are essential aspects of dharmic living.
Reflection of the Week
Walking with legs represents physical effort, which surely takes us to our goals or destinations in life. But walking with faith represents inner conviction, surrender, and divine trust, which leads us to our true destiny and higher purpose. Thus, effort moves the body, while faith elevates the soul.

Ayurvedic Health Tip of the Week - When to Eat
We should ideally eat our food between the hours of sunrise and sunset, as the body’s digestive fire tracks the movement of the sun in the sky. A light meal and dinner, with your largest meal at midday (when the sun is burning brightest) ensures you are eating in sync with Nature and in sync with your own digestive fire’s strength. Many individuals today tend to eat their largest meal at dinner, well past sunset, and this habit - over time - will create a strain on your digestive system. Consider changing this habit slowly, if possible.
