Blood Pressure Monitoring
Do you monitor your blood pressure at home? If so, here are some guidelines to ensure you are following so that the correct reading is always being captured:
1) Both feet should be on the floor, uncrossed
2) Back should be upright and supported in a chair
3) The arm being cuffed should be supported and the upper arm + cuff should be at heart level
4) The cuff should not be placed over clothing
5) Ensure >5 mins of quiet rest before the measurement
6) Avoid smoking, caffeinated beverages, or exercise within 30 mins of the BP measurements
7) Take at least 2 readings 1 min apart before taking any medications and in the evening before dinner
8) Record any supplements or meds you are taking, together with the dose, in your BP readings log
